  Enroll in Course

Do you want to teach historical martial arts?

Teaching is a skill which can be learned and taught.

If you want to learn a straightforward approach to becoming a good teacher, this course is for you.

We will cover Guy's simple and intuitive model for how to teach, which puts the student first. We then look at how to teach a basic class, how to lead an advanced class, how to coach an individual lesson, and how to teach beginners. We also cover skill development, how to prepare students for freeplay, how to set up freeplay safely, and how to use freeplay efficiently to help students actually improve.

We then look at syllabus design- from setting the goal of the syllabus, to structuring drills and practices. This course includes access to the complete "Recreate Historical Swordsmanship from Historical Sources" course, in case you want to dive deeper into creating your own interpretation and training method.

For your art to flourish, it must have new teachers, so we cover how to introduce your students to teaching, and how to develop them as teachers.

This course is delivered primarily as audio files and printable pdfs, including handouts and worksheets, with some video examples where necessary.

I have been training martial arts for 30 years, and teaching swordsmanship professionally since I founded The School of European Swordsmanship in 2001. The School has branches and study groups all over the world, so I have taught thousands of students, from all sorts of backgrounds and cultures. My books include The Swordsman’s Companion, The Duellist’s Companion, The Medieval Dagger, The Medieval Longsword, The Theory and Practice of Historical Martial Arts, and The Swordsman's Quick Guide series of ebooks along with many others. It's my job to help you achieve your goals. I do this by teaching in person, through my books, and through these online courses.
